As summer begins to wind down, this list of fun things to do in the Smoky Mountains continues to grow. This August, you can look forward to plenty of choices for kids and adults. While there's always too much happening to list every event, festival or activity, here are a few of the highlights you can look forward to soon.

Tennessee Tax-Free Weekend

What better excuse to take a trip to the Smokies than a tax-free weekend? You'll save a ton buying clothes, computers and all sorts of other approved items… all with no sales tax. Plan your trip for August 1 - 3 to take advantage of these special savings.

Celebrate Freedom

More than a festival, Celebrate Freedom is a discount program exclusively to honor our heroes. If you're active military, active reservist, a member of the National Guard, retired military or veterans, law enforcement, firefighter or emergency medical workers, you're entitled to special discounts from a wide variety of Pigeon Forge merchants when you show your ID at the Pigeon Forge Welcome Center.

Save at shopping centers and on attractions including indoor skydiving, golf, canoe trips, helicopter tours, restaurants and shows throughout the month of August.

The Singing Santa

If you feel things are heating up too much, visit the Singing Santa at Christmas Place in Pigeon Forge, TN. Have your photo made with Santa or just enjoy performances every Thursday through Monday throughout the month of August.

Creature Adventure at Dollywood

If you grew up with the Kratt brothers from PBS's show Zoboomafoo, you'll have to visit Dollywood to see their latest endeavor… Creature Adventure. Leapin' lemurs it's going to be fun! You'll have up close-and-personal encounters with all sorts of wild critters and learn all about them. It's an afternoon kids and parents will find fascinating.

StringTime in the Smokies

August 8 and 9 offers us a knee-slapping celebration like no other! StringTime in the Smokies at Patriot Park is a bluegrass music festival showcasing local performers including Doc Watson, David Grisman, Steep Canyon Rangers and many others. Admission is free. Be sure to bring a chair or blanket.
 
Country Tonite Theater

Is country music more to your liking? Then make plans to head for the Smokies August 22nd to see Mickey Gilley at Country Tonite Theater. This legendary performer has been delighting crowds for decades with hits everyone loves to sing along with. Or come August 29th and take in Craig Morgan in concert.

From the Black & Decker truckload sale August 14th-18th to Tennessee Smokies baseball home games August 1st-5th, 12th-16th and 23rd-27th, August is going to be one hot month in the Smoky Mountains!
