Whether you’re a newlywed or you’ve been married for years, it’s important for couples to get out of their routines and spend quality time together. The hustle and bustle of family life, combined with all the pressures from work, often make it difficult to do that at home. If you’re lucky you can sneak in a date night, but that usually lasts only a few hours. If you really want to add some spice to your relationship try a romantic winter weekend in the Smoky Mountains!

Secluded cabins nestled in the heart of the mountains are the perfect place to stay. Cuddle up with your sweetheart in front of a roaring fire and watch the snow as it softly transforms everything into a beautiful blanket of white. Add some romantic music, champagne and strawberries, and you’re off to a great start. Many cabins also come with a relaxing hot tub or heart-shaped Jacuzzi. As if that weren’t enough, try ordering a Swedish or hot stone couples massage. These can be conveniently performed in the privacy of your cabin, so you don’t even have to leave.

Want to play in the snow? Then you definitely need to check out Ober Gatlinburg. With eight ski trails ranging from beginner to daredevil, and chairlifts that include two quad and one double, you can spend less time on the lifts and more time on the slopes. Is ice-skating your thing? Visit the ice arena located inside the mall. Holding hands while gliding across the ice on this huge 140’ x 75’ rink is an ideal way to spend the afternoon. Another exciting winter adventure is the Alpine Slide. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery as you ascend the mountain via chairlift then slide down one of the 1,800’ tracks that take you around exhilarating twists and turns at the speed you choose.

Evening entertainment for couples is plentiful in the Smokies. Just take in one of the outstanding shows like The Great Smoky Mountain Murder Mystery deemed, “The dinner show people are dying to see!” The lights go out, you hear a scream and then you’re given several clues to help solve the mysterious question of “Who dunnit?" You can sit back and enjoy the show or jump in and help put the pieces together. Either way, the two of you are sure to have fun while also enjoying a southern-style plantation dinner.

If you’re looking for laughs, try the Comedy Barn Theatre. This award-winning show was named “Funniest Show ten years in a row.” With plenty of comedians and lots of country music, you’ll laugh till you cry. The Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre is another performance that will keep you in stitches. The original musical comedies are a combination of vaudeville, Monty Python and Broadway musicals. You have to see it to believe it.

When you’re ready to eat, choose from a vast array of restaurants including down home country cooking to top-quality steakhouses and everything in between. You even have the option of ordering a candlelit dinner for two catered right in your cabin!

Whether you're in a rut and looking for an adventurous change or longing for sheer peace and quiet after keeping a hectic pace, winter weekends in the Smoky Mountains have something for everybody. So pack your bags and get ready to put some romance back into your relationship.
